SiteGround Server Locations

SiteGround’s data centers for shared hosting, WordPress hosting, cloud hosting, or other hosting types, are powered by Google Cloud and are located in six data centers across the world. As with any hosting company, the choice of server locations is important, and SiteGround has chosen these locations as they have proven to be the most reliable for their customers, and provides good server coverage. Below is detailed information about SiteGround’s server locations.

SiteGround Data Centers / Server Locations

SiteGround provides servers in the following locations:

  • Council Bluffs, Iowa, USA
  • London, UK
  • Eemshaven, Netherlands
  • Frankfurt, Germany
  • Singapore
  • Sydney, Australia

While these SiteGround data center locations should put most of your website or blog users within close proximity of SiteGround’s servers, if you or your customers still need to be closer, or is global, SiteGround is teamed up with Cloudflare to provide CDN services for additional server locations for site caching.

With Cloudflare, sites hosted on SiteGround can have their content cached from Cloudflare’s servers free of charge. Whether it’s a website or blog, SiteGround’s web hosting service has your location covered. SiteGround also makes the connection to Cloudflare a simple process, and is done from inside the SiteGround user area or dashboard.

Whether you need Cloud hosting, WordPress hosting, or regular Shared Hosting, you can choose any data center from SiteGround.

SiteGround and Google Cloud

SiteGround chose Google Cloud for its server network infrastructure for several reasons. These include:

Uptime

SiteGround’s data centers use a high level of redundancy for critical server components. Data centers are powered from multiple electrical power feeds, have power generators for backup, and world class UPS technology systems to ensure zero downtime due to electricity outages. Network reliability is also ensured by using multiple simultaneous providers for all SiteGround servers.

Fast Network Connectivity

Google is known for maintaining one of the fastest and most powerful data networks. Combine this with the use of route optimization technologies and multiple internet backbone connections, and you end up with a fast network of data centers with very low latency. This means your site content will load fast for all users, especially the ones closest to their server locations.

Green Hosting

Google has been openly committed to offsetting all of its carbon emissions through the use of matching 100% of their energy needs by purchasing renewal energy. And it’s not just a goal. Google’s data centers have been fully offset with renewal energy since 2017. As a result, all of SiteGround’s server locations are energy efficient and green friendly.

Security

SiteGround ‘s data centers are protected using several different layers of security technology. One is the prevention of unauthorized server room access which is limited to only a small portion of certified team members and their security teams.

Also for SiteGround servers, the network infrastructure is encrypted to protect sensitive data through the use of advance tools like phishing resistant security keys.

Which SiteGround Server Location is best?

Ideally you want to use the server located closest to your target audience. You don’t necessarily need to choose a server in your city, or even state or province, as long as it’s in the same geographical area. This gives your website users the lowest number of hops or jumps their internet provider is required to make to reach your site. Here’s our recommendation of the best SiteGround server locations to choose depending on your location:

Council Bluffs, Iowa, USA – Choose SiteGround’s Iowa server location as the best data center if your target audience is anywhere in the America’s (North America, Central America, and South America). For end user’s of your site located in South America, using the Cloudflare CDN service that comes with SiteGround might be a good option.

London, UK – If your audience is based near London, or in the UK itself, then choose this location as your data center. This data center location will also work for most of Europe just fine, but SiteGround does have other better options if you’re in central or southern Europe.

Eemshaven, Netherlands – The SiteGround server facility in Eemshaven is another good option if your website users are based in Northern Europe.

Frankfurt, Germany – This is a new data center from SiteGround web hosting, being recently added after the switch to Google Cloud servers. The Frankfurt server location is a great option for your website if your site traffic is from Central or Southern Europe, or the Africa. Similar to South America, any website based in the Southern part of Africa would likely benefit from the Cloudflare CDN service included with SiteGround.

Singapore – The Singapore data center (located in Singapore City) is the ideal data center for just about any website in Asia, including India and Japan.

Sydney, Australia – For the Southern countries in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and surrounding areas, the Sydney data center is the best option for your website.

When choosing the best SiteGround Server location for your website, it’s best to choose the data center when you initially sign up for their hosting services. It is possible to change your preferred data center after the fact, however there’s a $30 relocation fee required for their customer support team to process the change.
